Second Annual Keytar Bear and Abby Taylor Day Announced

In 2014, local busking legend Keytar Bear suffered two senseless attacks while he jammed out late night to the crowds of young people heading home after a long night out. The brutality against one of Boston’s most recognizable, charismatic and lovable buskers led to the City of Cambridge offically declaring May 8 “Keytar Bear Day” in his honor. Last year, Keytar Bear Day saw a benefit concert at Middle East take place which raised thousands of dollars to get the anonymous busker back to tickling the ivories of his keytar.

This year, Keytar Bear and Abigail Taylor, the women who spearheaded the benefit concert, are back for round two with their first Street Performer Festival. It will take place on May 8 from 4 to 8 PM in Jill Brown Rhone Park at the intersection of Mass Ave. and Main St. in Central Square, Cambridge and feature musicians, artists, performers and food and drink vendors.

In a recent article published by Vanyaland, Taylor stated, “I want to create an event to celebrate the awesomeness of Keytar Bear and the other street performers in the Boston area. I like to think of this day as reason to bring people together to support the artists and performers that make us smile every day.”

Right now, there is a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to help pay for city permits and contribute some money to the performers as well. If you are interested in donating, you may do so here:
